I have had my laptop for just over two years and after about a year and a half I noticed the battery wasn't lasting very long anymore. Shortly after that it would always warn me to replace the battery. I never got around to replacing it until it completely died then I got a new one (not through HP, from a laptop battery shop online). After less then three months I noticed over the battery icon it had plugged in not charging written which I was experiencing with the old battery but I figured it would go away with a new battery. I then searched the net to find out how to solve that problem and some people had said to go in device manager and uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery then remove the battery, reboot, etc and then scan for hardware changes which reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. After that it was supposed to charge normally again but instead it came up with no battery detected and the icon had a red X through it.
