Feb 11, 2013  USB001 Virtual printer port / driver A client wants to use a USB port on their router as a USB printer server. The printer is an older HP but it is on the list of supported devices.

I'm in a situation where I'm trying to install a USB printer(xerox 205b) remotely while using the TPlink router's print server function. The retarded(recommended) process requires me to physically plug in the printer for each computer to install the print driver before the print server utility can function. Kinda defeat the purpose of a print server that allows remote printing.

The problem is that I cant possibly physically cart my printer to each and every PC to plug in the USB cable and install the drivers especially when its in a 'remote' location and I need the drivers on a few VMs. I managed to get it installed once on a VM(without the printer connected to it directly) when it somewhat had a USB virtual printer port available and I can just select that to install the printer driver but I cant seemed to replicate this where my other systems missing the USB virtual printer port. My google-fu is failing me on how do I create this printer port. Windows in question is windows 8.1. You will still have to install printer drivers just use the right method to connect the printer. Ie network printer. Tried(and used the router IP), the TP link router has its funky way of doing things. It requires usb driver of the printer coupled with its software to communicate with the route to emulate that its a usb attached printer.
